Dongfeng 8 m³ Water Tanker Truck: Specs, Spray System and Options

Dongfeng KR 8 m³ water sprinkler truck, front view

The Dongfeng 8 m³ water tanker truck is a 4×2 water bowser that carries 8,000 litres of water and sprays it four ways: a front flush bar, a rear spray bar, side sprinklers and a rotating water cannon on the rear platform. It is built on a Dongfeng chassis with a 3,800 mm wheelbase, a choice of Cummins 125 hp, Cummins 140 hp or Yuchai 135 hp engines, and left-hand or right-hand drive. Typical jobs are road washing, dust control on construction and mining sites, watering parks and green belts, and emergency water supply.

This guide covers the full specification, what each spraying system does, the options you can add, and how to order one for export.

Tank Design: Why Baffles and Coating Matter

The tank is made from Q235 carbon steel, 4 mm thick. Inside, anti-surge baffles split the water into sections, so the load does not slam forward when the driver brakes or turns. This keeps the truck stable and reduces stress on the chassis frame.

The tank is e-coated (electrophoresis) against rust inside and out, which matters when the truck carries water every day. A water level gauge on the front head shows how much is left. A rear ladder and a top guard rail give safe access to the manhole for cleaning and inspection.

Four Ways to Spray Water

The truck has four outlets. Each one is meant for a different job, and you can run them separately.

1. Front flush

A flush bar in front of the bumper washes the road surface and keeps dust down ahead of the truck. Some versions use an adjustable duckbill nozzle, so you can change the angle.

2. Rear spray

The rear spray bar covers a width of at least 8 m. It is used for dust suppression, cooling road surfaces in hot weather and routine road maintenance.

3. Side sprinklers

Sprinklers on both sides of the tank water green belts, roadside planting and lawns, covering a width of at least 14 m.

4. Rotating water cannon

The cannon is mounted on the rear work platform and turns 360°. You can switch the spray pattern between a straight jet, heavy rain, light rain, drizzle and mist. Its range is 28 m or more, enough to reach trees, building walls and high billboards.

Pump, Pipes and Valves

A dedicated high-flow sprinkler pump is standard. It is self-priming, so the truck can draw water from a river, pond or open tank with a suction lift of at least 7 m. A 40 or 50 fire pump can be fitted instead if you need higher pressure.

The truck comes with two suction hoses, outlet piping, ball valves, a gravity-flow valve, a filter and a standard 65 mm fire hydrant inlet, so it can also fill directly from a hydrant. Longer hoses (3 m or 5 m) can be supplied.

Controls and Safety

  • Manual control of all valves is standard.
  • Pneumatic or electric valves are optional. With them, the driver switches the front flush, rear spray and side sprinklers from a control box in the cab.
  • A water pressure gauge and water level gauge are fitted. A low-water alarm is optional.
  • The rear work platform has an anti-slip perforated floor, safety guard rails and a ladder.
  • LED arrow lights, a reversing alarm and a music horn warn traffic and pedestrians.

Optional Equipment

You can add equipment to suit your work:

  • Fog cannon (mist sprayer) with a 30–120 m range, for dust control at mines, construction sites and demolition work
  • High-pressure electric water cannon
  • Snow plow or snow roller for winter road clearing
  • Roller shutter doors to protect pumps and valves
  • Larger tanks or other chassis: ISUZU, HOWO, SHACMAN, JAC, JMC or IVECO

Where the 8 m³ Water Tanker Works Best

An 8,000-litre tank on a 4×2 chassis is a good size for:

  • Municipal road washing and dust control in towns and city districts
  • Construction sites that need daily dust suppression
  • Parks, green belts and highway planting
  • Water delivery to sites without piped water
  • Emergency use, connecting to a fire hydrant or supporting local fire services

For long haul roads at large mines, a 15–25 m³ tank on a 6×4 chassis usually saves refill trips. Tell us the job and we will recommend a size.
